The mythical spot of Parc des Dosses offers ideal conditions for Big Air. The tramontana blows up to 40 knots, or nearly 74 km/h. Such conditions make it possible to jump over 15 m high and perform spectacular tricks.
Laurent Vit and Gurvan Galanda take us to this spot for a Big Air session
Hi ! How were the conditions at the parc des dosses?
Nestled on the edge of the Salses pond, the Dosses Park kitesurfing spot is a real little paradise. The spot is practiced mainly by Offshore wind (North-West). When it blows like this, it smooths the water and offers plenty of room to pick up speed before launching a jump. That day there were around 25-30 knots.
Do you have any specific advice for navigating the spot?
The kitesurf kite preparation area is right next to the car park. There are not many places available on the latter, so it is better to arrive early! The space for rigging the equipment is relatively large, but the area very turbulent. So be careful when taking off.
Moving away a little from the edge towards the middle of the pond, the flat gives way to often well-formed chop and it becomes difficult to go upwind to reach the take-off area. This chop can also be imposing in SE winds. The body of water then becomes very chaotic.
What Kite were you using that day?
We were both in Furia V2. It is the most versatile wing in the Takoon range. She is as comfortable in the big air as in surfing or even freeriding.
The wing is still healthy, comfortable, intuitive and ultra stable, so perfect for tricks and big air. The Furia V2 has a powerful and explosive topspin with an important hangtime.
We use it with the Sweet Barre in 48cm.
And what about the boards?
We were with the Lux and the Lux Carbone. Both are ultra fast boards, with excellent grip and very good upwind.
They have a powerful and airy pop to facilitate newschool and old school tricks.
What to do in Barcarès if the wind is not blowing?
Barcarès is located 22 kilometers from Perpignan and near Port Leucate. There are numerous cycle paths that connect much of the region. The town has a 2 and 5 pulley water ski lift as well as many bars and restaurants.
